Stray Bullet Enters Home, Wounds Fairfield Woman

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) – A Fairfield woman suffered a gunshot wound through her leg after a shooting out on the street sent a stray bullet through her living room, authorities said.

Fairfield Police officers were near Grande Circle shortly after 11:15 p.m. Wednesday when they heard several gunshots in the area, leading them to the 1900 block after receiving reports of an injured woman inside a nearby apartment.

According to Janice Craig, the victim's sister, the 50-year-old woman was sitting on a couch when one of the bullets traveled through the apartment wall, striking her leg. The bullet pierced the victim's pillow, and would have struck her head if she hadn't sat up a few seconds earlier to answer a phone call from her cousin.

"My cousin saved her life," Janice said. "I thank God that my sister is here with me, I really do."

The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for her leg injury. She is expected to recover.

No witnesses have reported seeing the shooting, but authorities don't believe the victim was the intended target.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at (707) 644-STOP.
