A Dry Saturday? You'll Need More Than The Luck O' The Irish

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Despite rain in the forecast, in downtown Sacramento, businesses are still planning to have a good St. Patrick's Day.

Put on something green and clean your pint glass. St. Patrick's Day begins bright and early tomorrow morning.

"Our doors open at 8 a.m., corned beef and cabbage all day, tons of whisky of and beer," said Henry de Vere White, owner of de Vere's Irish Pub.

For de Vere's, St. Patrick's Day is their Super Bowl. In past years they've even shut down part of l Street for the celebration. But this year they face an obstacle: Weather. The forecast is calling for rain.

"As my grandmother would say it's a fine day for a picnic. I mean, this is great Irish weather. I mean, if there was ever any reason to get great Irish coffee or whisky this is it," said de Vere.

At de Veres in Davis they're prepared for weather. They're putting up tents so people will be able to stay dry outside. But they don't expect the rain to hurt crowds. In fact, they think more people may show up because of it.

"Rain is what we call 'pub weather' and it brings people in who want to feel comfortable and eat some really good soul-warming food," said Josey McCarter, a de Vere's employee.

de Vere's boasts some classic Irish dishes, and starting at 10 a.m., they'll be televising a rugby match between the England' and Ireland's national teams.
