North Natomas Debuts Expanded Downtown Shuttle Service

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - North Natomas is showcasing a new mode of transportation. And not only will it save money at the pumps, but will help the environment too.

"I love riding the shuttle. I ride it everyday," said Yating Campbell, a shuttle rider.

If you live in Natomas you may love this even more.

"We're here to celebrate," said a shuttle spokesman.

They're celebrating the expansion of the shuttle service. It's called "Shuttle up!"

"We've got great shuttle service from the North Natomas community to downtown," said.

The North Natomas Transportation Management Association is introducing its new fleet of shuttles to riders and residents -- six of them.

"And our shuttles are now powered by compressed natural gas," said the spokesman.

"We love that it's a green shuttle and natural gas," said Campbell.

Transportation officials say ridership from North Natomas to downtown Sacramento has been increasing, especially with soaring gas prices.

"And these days of rising gas prices, and easy to use," said Campbell.

Not only are they hoping it saves gas but will help save the environment too. Since it runs on clean energy, the shuttles apparently help to significantly reduce carbon emissions. They're also ADA-friendly with easy access on and off the shuttles.

"So it's a win-win for everybody and I'm super excited," said the spokesman.

The shuttles got their first run tonight. They participated in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Old Sacramento.
