Smoldering Fireplace Ashes Spark Overnight Home Fire

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Fireplace ashes ignited a garage fire in Sacramento overnight, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to a home on Stansberry and Whitewater ways for reports of a garage fire early Tuesday morning.

When crews arrived, they found flames had started to take over the side of the house.

A man who lived there was already outside trying to save his home with the help of neighbors.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from getting into the attic, and no one was hurt.

It was determined smoldering fireplace ashes in trash cans sparked the fire.
