Sacramento Liquor Store Owners Fight Off Robbers

DEL PASO (CBS13) - It's a plot straight out of the movies, but it happened in real-life to store clerks in Del Paso Heights.

The owner at the Four Oakes Market says the store has been robbed three times before, and this time he decided to fight back, and it was all caught on tape.

It is terrifying to even watch. Two masked gunmen barged into the market, and immediately, one grabbed a clerk and put a gun to his head.

"I saw the guy, I saw the gun, the hoodie, everything," said Mangal Singh.

Mangal was behind the counter at the time while Kulbier Singh was the one with the barrel at his temple.

"The guy coming inside, bring the gun, try to rob," said Mangal.

What happened next was nothing short of an action movie scene as a customer dropped to the ground. Kulbier was dragged down an aisle with the gun at his head.

At the exact same time, Mangal grabbed his revolver and the robber, still at the door, knew he made a mistake.

"I saw the gun, the hoodie, he looked up I shot him," said Mangal.

With the suspect trying to get the courage to face an armed Mangal, the shop owner opened fire, shattering his own window door and it was enough to scare the robber away.

The danger wasn't over; cameras caught Kulbier simultaneously fighting for his life. Despite not speaking English, he let his fists do the talking by taking the gunman on in a struggle that would, incredibly, leave Kulbier with the robber's firearm, which ended up being a pellet gun.

Nineteen-year-old Jermain Walker was done for and a stick was enough to keep him subdued.

Eventually police arrived, responding to Mangal's panic button, and incredibly were handed the unarmed robber.

"Everybody was trying to protect their own home and right now this is home," said PERSON.

Customers are impressed by their shopkeepers' bravery.

Two gunmen looking for some easy cash met with shopkeepers that made crime anything but easy.

Police say they are happy no one was hurt and are continuing their search for the second suspect.
