Two-Alarm Fire Rips Through Commercial Laundry Building

SOUTH SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A two-alarm fire ripped through a commercial laundry plant in South Sacramento overnight.

Firefighters were called to the building on Otto Circle just before midnight.

When crews arrived, they found flames had already overtaken about three-quarters of the building and heavy smoke was pouring from the roof.

PG&E was called out to turn off the gas into the building, but was having a difficult time so, for a time during the fire fight, fire crews stopped trying to put out the flames.

"What we want to do is actually keep that gas burning and that's what we are trying to do rather than have the gas flowing without ignition," said Batt. Chief Chris Ortiz of Sacramento Fire.

Fire crews spent the night battling the fire and were still watching for hot spots early Thursday morning.

Investigators are still looking into what sparked the fire.
