Man Accused Of Shooting At Passing Vehicles In Stockton

STOCKTON (CBS13) - A man was arrested early Tuesday morning for shooting at other vehicles while driving around Stockton.

At around 1:25 a.m., CHP officers stopped a black 2006 Pontiac sedan in the area of Charter Way at California Street for not dimming his high beams for oncoming traffic.

During his conversation with the passengers in the car, the officer spotted a revolver beneath the right front seat and detained the passengers. While searching the vehicle, officers found multiple live and.22 caliber rounds and .22 casings. They also found a bullet hole in the windshield and another one in the driver's window.

The front seat passenger, Fernando Mata, 19, is accused of firing the gun several times. Officers suspect Mata may have fired at other vehicles, including at a white sedan around midnight.

Mata was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of discharging a firearm from a vehicle and multiple weapons charges.

A 19-year-old female driver and another male passenger were in the car at the time and were not charged.

No victims have come forward.
