Folsom City Council Upset Over Mather Airport Noise

FOLSOM (CBS13) — The Folsom City Council did not welcome officials trying to expand Mather Airport with open arms on Tuesday.

The debate over allowing more cargo flights at Mather Airport got ugly as residents and council members complained about possible noise issues from the flights.

"We have aircraft at 12:30 in the morning coming in at 3,000 feet, 2,000 feet, and when the FAA says it's a safe pattern, it rattles rooftops," said Folsom Mayor Steve Miklos.

The tough talk with a threat to sue the Sacramento County airport system if it can't reduce the noise. City officials say the added flights from extending a runway at Mather Airport would only exacerbate problems.

Airport system officials predict the changes would add four to six cargo flights a day to Mather.
