Former Oroville ESL Teacher Arrested On Molestation Charges

OROVILLE (CBS13) - A former Oroville English instructor was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting three students.

Since 2011, the Butte County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit has been investigating allegations that 53-year-old You Lee Vang sexually assaulted students at Poplar Ave School. Vang taught English as a Second Language to Hmong students between 2001 and 2011.

In 2011, a girl said Vang sexually assaulted her between 2006 and 2007, when she was around the ages of 8 or 9 years old.

An investigation led deputies to three other victims who made similar claims.

Before he could be questioned in 2011, Vang moved to Anchorage, Alaska.

Deputies arrested Vang on April 10 in Anchorage and transported him back to Butte County.

He was booked into Butte County Jail on multiple counts of digital penetration of a child under the age of 10, lewd acts on a child with force and lewd acts on a child.

His bail is set at more than $3 million.

Anyone with information regarding Vang is encouraged to contact Detective D'Amato at the Butte County Sheriff's Office SVU at (530) 538-7321.
