Sacramento Woman Sentenced To 26 Years To Life For Murdering Husband

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Shajia Ayobi, a Sacramento woman convicted of killing her husband, Ghulam Ayobi, has been sentenced to 26 years to life in prison.

Shajia tearfully apologized to her children before the judge handed down the sentence Friday.

Jurors reached a guilty verdict against Shajia on May 1. In December 2011, she told detectives her husband was the victim of a fatal carjacking. But when detectives found no such carjacking had occurred, they charged her with murder.

When he was killed, Ghulam, a 53-year-old father of four, was working as an Afghani cultural trainer for the U.S. Army in Louisiana. He had previously served in the Afghanistan Army.

A second suspect, Jake Clark, was also arrested in connection with the case.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story reported Ayobi would be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
