NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) – A suspect is in custody after he allegedly firebombed a neighbor’s apartment Thursday evening.

Around 9:30 p.m., Metro Fire crews were dispatched to reports of burning town houses in the 5600 block of Hillsdale Boulevard in North Highlands.

While firefighters were handling the blaze, witnesses lead arson investigators to the suspect — Charles Hui McKenzie — who was watching the scene. He was questioned and later taken into custody.

Investigators say McKenzie allegedly had been throwing flammable liquids at the homes, causing the fire.

Red Cross was called to the scene to assist at least one displaced resident.

No residents or firefighters were injured.
