Decision Spiked: Davis School Board Backs Down, Rehires Top Volleyball Coach

DAVIS (CBS13) — The Davis school board relented and reinstated a volleyball coach of the year after a tense meeting.

The room was packed with emotions, parents, students and teachers at the Davis Unified School District.

Julie Crawford, the defending champion girls' volleyball coach that was also named coach of the year, was recently let go without explanation—something the board is allowed to do because it is a personnel decision.

Some believe it's a political battle over part-time coaching positions at Davis High, fueled by a few disgruntled mystery parents putting pressure on the board.

In the past three years, five coaches of major sports, including football, soccer and golf, were fired.

After a closed session, the board decided to reinstate Crawford.
