CHP Hopes To Prevent Fatalities With Large Crackdown On I-80

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The CHP is kicking off a challenge to prevent deaths along Interstate 80.

Through July 31, CHP is using all of its resources to keep the interstate safe. They'll have added officers on the road as well as helicopter patrols. But officers say drivers must be up for the challenge as well.

"We want to remind motorists this is not about issuing many citations. This is about giving the info out to them and we're asking the community to play an active role in this and basically what we're asking them is to obey traffic laws," said CHP Officer Adrian Quintero.

The CHP has teamed up with states across the U.S. for the challenge. Their goal is zero fatalities through the end of the month along Interstate 80, which stretches all the way to New Jersey.
