Man Arrested At Sacramento International Airport For Bringing Teen Runaway On Flight

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A Connecticut man is behind bars for allegedly bringing a 14-year-old runaway to Sacramento without her parents' permission.

Nathan Salas, 27, of Merced was arrested by sheriff's deputies at the Sacramento International Airport Monday night while accompanied by the Hamden, Connecticut teen who, deputies say, he met in an online chat room.

The girl's parents called police on August 19 after she disappeared, leaving behind a suicide note. Through the course of their investigation, detectives tracked a number in her phone back to Salas. Her parents said they didn't know Salas and hadn't given the girl permission to leave.

Investigators contacted airport dispatch after learning the two might be arriving in Sacramento, and got information about their flight.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Department deputies met Salas and the girl as they came off the flight at around 10:30 p.m. Salas was arrested and booked into the Sacramento Main Jail on charges of intentionally concealing a child without parents' consent. He is being held on $100,000 bail.

The teen is in the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall as an out-of-county runaway.
