Stockton Councilwoman's Wedding Has Mayor's Car Towed From City Hall

STOCKTON (CBS13) - Stockton's mayor had some parking issues over the weekend after his car was towed away from his own city parking spot.

However, police say his car shouldn't have been there.

The wedding on the steps of Stockton City Hall was a historic one. It's the first time a city council member has ever said "I do" there.

But another event took place at city hall that may have also never happened before. Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva's car was towed away from his very own city parking space. It happened just before the ceremony, between Councilwoman Dyane Burgos and Gustavo Medina.

The mayor's car was parked just steps from where the couple's friends and family sat, right in front of a sign specifying it as a tow away zone.

After the wedding, Silva posted the following status on his Facebook page:

"My car was parked in the spot that says MAYOR. All someone would have to do was call me, text me, email me or Facebook me...I did not know that people can rent or borrow city hall."

The wedding planner told CBS13 over the phone that city workers were sent a memo about the wedding months ago, including a warning no one would be allowed to park around the building.

CBS13 tried to call the mayor, who was on his way back from Southern California. Silva said he would call us after he arrived back in town, but never did. When we tried calling him again later in the day, he didn't pick up the phone.

Silva did send well wishes to the council member on his Facebook status update, before he deleted it.

"I want her to have a good wedding. Everyone deserves to have memories that last a lifetime on their wedding. But someone just should have called me, that's all. They know that it is my car."
