Investigators: Illegal Items Found In Home Of Sacramento Deputy Accused Of Molestation

NEVADA CITY (CBS13) — No charges have been filed yet against a Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy accused of molesting a child, but investigators say they've found illegal items in his home.

Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says his investigators wasted no time when they learned of the investigation.

"It's always disturbing. We hold ourselves to a higher standard," Royal said. "This information came forward and we started doing interviews and felt the D.A.'s office that we have sufficient adequate evidence to show that he was involved in the crimes of child molestation."

Deputy Donald Black, a 24-year veteran, is accused of molesting at least one boy in Nevada County.

That victim is now 21 years old, but recently came forward saying it happened when he was around 14.

"Based on that, we secured search warrants for five incidents that occurred," Royal said.

Black was arrested on the job on Tuesday in Sacramento. Before being handcuffed and transported to Nevada County, investigators searched his home and were surprised with what they allegedly found.

"During their search, we did recover also a couple other items which are illegal," Royal said. "One was what we believe are anabolic steroids for injection purposes, and also pills we believe are ecstasy."

If those allegations are true, investigators see it as a black eye for law enforcement.

"The public has a trust in what we do. Anytime we damage that trust, it hurts all of the officers that serve the community."
