Sparks Middle School Shooter Identified As 12-Year-Old Jose Reyes

SPARKS, NEV. (CBS13) — The 12-year-old suspect in a deadly school shooting has been identified as seventh-grader Jose Reyes.

Police in Sparks, Nev., say Reyes brought a 9mm Ruger semiautomatic pistol from his home and killed a math teacher and shot two other students, before turning the gun on himself.

Both the students Reyes shot are expected to recover.

Police say they made their unorthodox decision not to release his name to protect the privacy of Reyes’ family, but his name had been widely circulated in the small town and online.
