Kids, Parents In Elk Grove On Edge After 4 Attempted Abductions In 2 Weeks

ELK GROVE (CBS13) - Police are searching for a predator who has been targeting kids.

Authorities say the suspect struck at least four times in the last two weeks within a mile of Franklin High School.

"I can't imagine what this person is thinking, terrifying these children," said one woman.

According to police, a man tried four different times to get kids to come up to his car. But in each case, the kids ran away and called for help.

A letter sent home with Elk Grove students warned of the suspect, who is described as "a suspicious man who reportedly tried to lure teenagers to his vehicle."

"It's very weird and creepy," student Jessica Jimenez said.

Police have increased patrols in the area and we talked to are doing things differently when walking to school.

"I actually check cars around here to see who's looking...suspicious eyes," said Franklin High School student Ruben Lopez.

Parents hope authorities nab the suspect quickly before anything worse happens.

"It looks like those kids did the right thing. Either they ran away or called 911 -- whatever they had to do to protect themselves," Elk Grove mom Star Cruson said.

Police urge anyone with information about the predator to call the department. They are offering a $1,000 reward that leads to the capture of the man.

Police say the man was seen driving two different vehicles: a copper or silver car, and a silver van.
