Stockton Police Outline Hiring, Enforcement Plans For Next Three Years

STOCKTON (CBS13) — The Stockton Police Department released its three-year plan for the department after voters approved a tax increase that would help beef up the department.

During the past 18 months, the cash-strapped department focused heavily on lowering the homicide rate, slowing gun violence and finding dangerous gang members.

Now with the funds from Measure A, neighbors can not only expect a greater attack on violent crime, but improvements to quality of life issues as well.

The department plans on expanding its code enforcement division, which would give them the manpower to do something called a neighborhood blitz.

"Meet with the community, find out where the problem locations are, and spend a good 90 days in those neighborhoods, cleaning them up, and giving it back to the good citizens of that neighborhood," said Officer Joe Silva.

Over the next three years, they plan on hiring 120 officers and expand detective crews, continue hot-spot patrols and increase task forces that appear to be working.

"It's going to allow us to have more police officers out on the streets," Silva said. "You are going to see a more visible police presence near parks, schools, shopping malls."
