Firefighter Found Dead On Yuba County Road

CAMPTONVILLE (CBS13) - The body of a Tahoe National Forest firefighter was found lying in a Yuba County road over the weekend.

Michael Patrick Kelly II, 32, was found dead on Marysville Road in Camptonville early Saturday morning, according to a statement from Tahoe National Forest officials.

Kelly had been working as a squad boss of Tahoe Hotshots crew, which is headquartered in Camptonville, a small town 36 miles northeast of Marysville. He began working for the forest service in 2003. During that time, in addition to being a hotshot boss, he worked as a firefighter on fire engines and as a smoke jumper.

"This is a tragic loss for Mike's family, for Tahoe National Forest, and for the fire-fighting community," said Tahoe Forest Supervisor Tom Quinn.

Kelly's death is being investigated by the CHP and the Yuba County Sheriff's Office.
