Antelope Teen Killed Trying To Flag Down Truck On I-80

LOVELOCK, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say an 18-year-old California woman was hit and killed near Lovelock, Nev. while trying to flag down a pickup truck for help.

Nevada Highway Patrol officials say Michalea Vines of Antelope, Calif. died after being hit on Interstate 80 just after midnight on Tuesday.

Troopers say Vines was walking on the shoulder about four miles west of Lovelock when she stepped into the lane as she tried to signal a truck for help.

The Ford F-150 hit her.

Officials say the driver, who's from Winnemucca, pulled over and tried to help Vines, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say Vines may have been drinking before the accident.
