Escalon Shoppers Show Local Businesses Major Support On Small Business Saturday

ESCALON (CBS13) - Shoppers are recovering from a long weekend, hitting the stores to cross everything off their Christmas gift lists. While Black Friday is the time for the big box stores to shine, Small Business Saturday was critical for local shops.

Jody Wilson is already busy with holiday floral arrangements.

"It's picking up. The locals really take care of us and keep coming back," she said.

He says the city of Escalon has embraced taking care of their local shops.

"You get personal service and get to know what they like and what they're families like," said Wilson.

Many small business owners say Small Business Saturday reminds customers to shop locally.

"We have a sale every year for Small Business Saturday, and I think it helps," said Vineyard Pharmacy and Gifts owner Catherine Duncan.

Duncan says she competes with big stores and sales are already looking up.

"I think they've been more robust than last year," she said.

She says Small Business Saturday helped bring in a lot of new customers.

"Really busy day, I was very pleased with the support from the local people," said Duncan.
