Couple Accused Of Torturing, Sexually Assaulting Colfax Man During Robbery

COLFAX (CBS13) — A couple is accused of torturing and sexually assaulting a Colfax man for hours as part of a robbery.

Placer County Sheriff's deputies say Donald Bell, 46, and Robin Brawley, 23, sneaked into the victim's apartment and waited for him to come home. They hit him with a stun gun, put handcuffs on his legs that left deep wounds, and sexually assaulted him.

But that wasn't all, said Tonya Roberts, a neighbor of the victim.

"He knocked on my door, he had paint all over him, and he had N----- wrote on his forehead," she said.

She helped him call 911 after the attack.

"It is freaky to think that things like that can happen here," she said. "You know I love living here because it's a nice town. Everybody knows everybody."

The man spent days terrified the couple would return until they were arrested on Tuesday.

"Not knowing what's going to happen, you know, having a knife right at my throat," he said. I really did fear for my life."

He says he had been acquainted with Brawley in the past, but he didn't know her well. He doesn't know why they would have carried out the attack, but says both seemed to be on drugs.

The couple faces a list of felony charges and they're being held at the Placer County Jail on more than $1 million bail.
