New Year's Bullet Hits Shasta County Girl In Head, Narrowly Misses Skull

HAPPY VALLEY (CBS13) — A 16-year-old girl was struck in the head by a bullet investigators believe was fired by someone ringing in the new year with a rifle on Wednesday.

Shasta County Sheriff's deputies say the girl was hit outside a home by a bullet from a rifle just past midnight on New Year's Day in a home off of China Gulch Road south of Redding.

She was transported to the hospital where medical personnel found the bullet lodged in her scalp, narrowly missing her skull. She was treated and released.
