Sacramento Man Shares Video Of Rescue From Fire On Top Of Yosemite's Half Dome

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento man shares his tale of rescue from Half Dome in Yosemite as the Meadow Fire surged toward his group.

It is the kind of heart-pounding scenario that the most creative Hollywood directors might build up into an adventure movie.

The rescue was from one of the world's most iconic mountaintops about 8,000 feet high with a wildfire exploding in size toward the people.

Only the daredevil stars here were real people like Adam Roitman of Sacramento. He was one of 80 people who climbed Half Dome and became stranded by a rapidly growing fire.

Park rangers told them they couldn't hike back down.

"He was like, you need to go up its really dangerous, you could die," he said.

Climbing the cables to the very top of Half Dome became the only option. Once inside the rescue helicopter, he shot video of the descent down the face of the mountain.

He knew climbing up Half Dome would be an adventure, but nothing will top the tale he has about how he got back down.
