Colfax Man Among Those Stranded By Hurricane Odile In Cabo San Lucas

COLFAX (CBS13) — There's no water or power and people are looting in the streets of Cabo San Lucas in the wake of Hurricane Odile.

It was supposed to be a trip for the guys, have a few beers, catch a few fish, but instead it's turned into a disaster with many Northern Californians stuck in Mexico.

Roads buckled and major flooding came as Odile tore up the coast when it made landfall with 100 mph winds on Sunday.

Jamie Fellos lives in Colfax, and has been waiting to hear her husband Mark's voice for days.

"All excited, four of them to go fishing, a guy's fishing trip they had been planning for like six months," she said.

The hotel they were staying at was hit hard. The last time Jamie was able to talk to Mark, it wasn't good.

"They moved into a back building but that flooded, there was no power, no water, people were looting," she said.

Thousands of tourists are now trying to get out of the region. Jamie found out late Wednesday that her husband is safe in Guadalajara.

Since the airport near Cabo is closed because of damage, the Mexican Air Force flew Mark and many more Americans to other Mexican cities with operating airports.

"There's roughly 26,000 that are there, so that's a lot of people to get out on planes," she said.

Jamie says she can't wait until her husband is home, especially when she sees images of people looting or lining up for food and water.
