DAVIS (CBS13) – The teen convicted of brutally killing and mutilating two Davis seniors in their home in 2013 has been found sane. He now faces up to 52 years behind bars.

The Yolo County Distric Attorney’s office will hold a press conference about the verdict at 3 p.m.

Last Friday, Daniel Marsh was convicted on two counts of first-degree murder in the death of 87-year-old Chip Northup and his wife, 76-year-old Claudia Maupin. He was also found guilty on all enhancements of lying in wait, torture and multiple murders.

Investigators said Marsh, who was 15-years-old at the time of the murders, confessed to the stabbing. Northup and Maupin were each stabbed more than 60 times.

Earlier in September, the jury learned the gruesome details about the murder. Prosecutors presented a video to the jury that showed Marsh admitting to the murders.

Marsh said he had gone to between 40 and 50 homes looking for unlocked doors or windows when he an open window at the couple’s home. He said he watched the couple as they slept before he attacked.

According to other testimony, Claudia begged him to stop as she died. Marsh confessed to mutilating their bodies, prosecutors said.

Marsh told investigators in his confession video “It felt right,” “It felt amazing,” and “It felt great.”

Marsh’s attorney didn’t deny the teen murdered the couple. Instead, he blamed the teen’s actions on his parents’ divorce and antidepressants.
