49ers Fans Desperate To Find Mom's Special Seat From The 'Stick

HAYWARD (CBS13) - A family of 49ers fans is desperate to get back their mom's missing special seat from Candlestick Park.

They ordered their special seat when the 'stick shut down, but they were sent the wrong one.

Anybody who's spent a lifetime going to games with their loved ones will understand how much it means. This seat is much more than just that just a seat. It's a symbol of family.

They've had the seat 36 years, through thick and thin and championships and last-place teams.

Leanne Gerlach and her brother Ken Rowe were at Candlestick Park with their grandpa and their mom, Kerry.

"We grew up there. I went to my first game in '79," said Gerlach.

Their mom taught them about loyalty through sports.

"Once she picked something, no matter what the brand was, it was hers for life. It did not change," said Gerlach.

When Kerry passed a few years ago, no one dared sit in her seat at the 'stick. That was her spot and hers alone. And when the clock hit zero after the last 49ers last home game, they left her a note that read: "Mom, this will always be your seat. Love you. Miss you. Leanne and Ken."

"One of the best women I've ever known -- my best friend. So when she passed away it was hard on us," said Gerlach.

They bought the seats when the stadium closed. It wasn't cheap, but to them, they're priceless. The delivery finally came.

"I was yelling -- dropped everything. We opened it together and I almost fell down. I literally started crying right there," said Gerlach.

Their grandpa's seat was there, but their mom's was not.

"It's not even the right seat from the right row, section, at all," said Rowe.

There had been an obvious and heartbreaking mix-up.

"It was unbelievably devastating," said Gerlach.

It was a piece of their childhood and a tangible way to keep their mom's memory alive.

Rowe and Gerlach are pleading.

"If anybody has it just return it. It's not theirs, it's my mom's," said Rowe.

"It would mean…it would mean everything to our family to get that seat back," said Gerlach.

After we contacted the 49ers, Gerlach says she got a call from someone in the team's front office promising to look into the situation and try to get her mom's seat back where it belongs.
