Sierra Snowfall Has Drought-Weary Californians Excited For More

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) - You know it's been a bad drought when people freak out when they see snow.

And who can blame Annabelle Vasilkov?

"It is awesome, I freakin' love it. First snow, so excited," said Vasilkov.

She was on her way to Sacramento from Tahoe when snow drifted down from the sky at Donner Summit.

"It's been way too long," she said.

Mostly rain coated the roads on Interstate 80 in the foothills while lonely snow guns at Boreal waited patiently for ice to turn to powder.

The first big snow is like your favorite team winning a game in the preseason. It always brings out positive predictions for the year ahead.

"It's three years and coming. So we're due," said Larry Hahn, with Cold Stream Adventures.

But after the past few years of an unprecedented drought, the only thing some in Truckee can do is hope for a wet winter.

"Last year was really tough. Christmas was OK. The rest of the season was kinda mellow. This year is going to be our best years," said Hahn.

Predictions are just that. We'll have to wait and see, but for now, let's hope we see winter storm after winter storm slam the Sierra.
