Suspect Allegedly Stole Sacramento Metro Fire Vehicle, Led Deputies On Chase
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) - Sacramento county sheriff deputies are trying to figure out how a thief was able to steal a Sacramento Metro Fire pick-up truck from a corporate yard in Rancho Cordova.
Deputies initially responding to a burglar alarm at an auto body shop on Coloma Road, early Monday morning. That's where they found a man running from the business. He reportedly got into the truck and led police on a chase on Highway 50.
The suspect eventually drove to a Lowe's store on Zinfandel Drive where he crashed the vehicle and ran away.
Deputies arrested the suspect about a block away.
"He faces burglary, vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools, as well as warrants for auto theft," said Sgt. Todd Deluca of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
A large storage box sitting on the back of the pick-up is full of tools and appears to be stolen AT&T property, deputies say.
Deputies aren't sure when the thefts took place.
The suspect also faces felony charges for evading officers.
