Placer County Sheriff's Deputy Pleads Guilty To Unlawful Sex With A Minor

PLACER COUNTY (CBS13) — A Placer County Sheriff's Deputy has pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sex with a minor as a felony, the Placer County District Attorney's office announced on Wednesday.

Kenneth Skogen will spend 150 days in jail and be placed on three years probation under the plea deal, which also requires counseling.

His formal sentencing will be on Jan. 7.

The alleged relationship happened back in 2011. Detectives say they were tipped off by another deputy that the Placer County Sheriff's deputy was in a relationship with the teen. The teen, whose gender was not stated, was said to be a volunteer with the department.

The investigation eventually resulted in four felony charges being filed against Skogen: unlawful sex with a minor, oral copulation with a minor, meeting a minor for the purposes of having sex and communicating with a minor for engaging in lewd or lascivious behavior.

Skogen has been commended in the past, receiving the public safety officer medal of valor for pulling an elderly woman from her home during the 49er Fire in 2009.

He's also the same deputy who made news in 2010 when his 3-year-old daughter accidentally shot herself with one of her father's guns in their Roseville garage. The district attorney's office investigated to determine whether Skogen acted in a grossly negligent manner in the storage of his firearms. No charges were filed.
