Early Morning Fire At Elk Grove High School Deliberately Set

ELK GROVE (CBS13) – Officials say a small fire discovered at Elk Grove High School early Thursday morning was deliberately set.

Crews from the Cosumnes Fire Department showed up at the school just before 3:30 a.m. and quickly doused the flames. The fire, which damaged a small part on the outside of a building, was quickly deemed suspicious and an investigator was called to the scene.

The investigator later confirmed that the fire had been deliberately set. Apparently, someone was able to break into a janitor's closet and use a gas can and other items for the fire.

Cosumnes Fire reports that a witness saw a juvenile running near the baseball fields during or just after the fire.

No classes are being canceled due to the fire, which caused about $5000 in damage, according to Cosumnes Fire.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area or knows more is asked to call the Cosumnes Fire Arson Hotline at (916) 405-7118.
