Folsom High Quarterback Shrugs Off National Touchdown Record As He Prepares For Title Game

FOLSOM (CBS13) — A Folsom High School senior broke a national touchdown record with his 220th touchdown pass, but he says he's not focused on his success.

Jake Browning and the rest of the Folsom Bulldogs are getting ready for the Division I championship game on Friday against Grant High.

If you ask the quarterback about the accomplishment that led the team to a victory over Tracy High on Saturday, he just shrugs it off like it's no big deal.

"I mean I don't really think about it that much," he said.

Coach Kris Richardson has a simple explanation.

"It's not for him about the record, it's about the team win," he said.

Browning says he can't focus on himself with the matchup against Grant ahead when a big storm is expected to hit.

"I mean we've played in the rain before and you know they'll have to play in the rain if we play in the rain," he said.

Off the field, he says he's just a normal 18-year-old senior. Come January, he'll be heading to the University of Washington to become a student athlete.

"It'll be nice, living here most of my life, so go trying something new and have new challenges," he said.

But before he becomes a Husky, he's a Bulldog for a few more weeks.

"Jake's one of the best around you know he's going to go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks in California history and national history," Richardson said.

Browning accomplished his record-breaking feat in just three seasons, where the previous record holder needed four seasons.
