Sierra Ski Resorts Rejoice As Nearly 2 Feet Of Snow Fall During Storm

BOREAL (CBS13) — Sierra ski resorts are hoping to cash in on Thursday's storm after nearly two feet of snow fell at one resort.

Boreal didn't even bother opening on Thursday as the winds were too powerful. But once the storm finally slowed, people were in a hurry to get up there.

The resort is expecting big crowds after one of the biggest storms in years dropped nearly two feet of snow.

"I mean if I was down there, I would definitely be coming up from the Bay Area and San Francisco," said Tess Hobbs.

Kaleb Arnbrest and Jake Smith snowed up with snowboards in hand a half an hour before the first chair.

"You ready or what," Arnbrest said.

"Oh I'm so ready dude, I'm so stoked. It's gonna be so sick -- ahhh," Smith said.

The 20 inches of new snow is allowing Boreal to open up new runs heading into the holiday season. Snow-covered Interstate 80 didn't give Smith the easiest drive, but there's no place he'd rather be.

"9 to 9. Gonna go until 9 o'clock or until we can't go anymore. Gonna go all day; that's the plan," he said.

The resort has relied on manmade snow during the drought, so it is hoping the early-season storm is a sign of things to come.
