Site Of Deputy Shootings Will Help Train Firefighters Before Demolition

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The Motel 6 on Arden Way that is scheduled for demolition will help Sacramento Metro firefighters train.

Firefighters received permission from the city to train on the empty building for the next three weeks.

The motel was the beginning of a deadly crime spree that claimed the lives of two sheriff's deputies. Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy Danny Oliver was shot and killed on Oct. 24 when he was responding to the report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot. Placer County Sheriff's Det. Mike Davis was allegedly shot by the same culprit later that day.

Before the shootings, the days were numbered for the Arden Way Motel 6 and the nearby Century 14 Theater. Plans for a multimillion expansion of the Howe Bout Arden shopping plaza next door called for the motel to come down.
