Woman, 23, Accused Of Identity Theft, Elder Abuse Of Rocklin Man

ROCKLIN (CBS13) – A Sacramento woman is facing elder abuse charges after she allegedly bought hundreds of dollars worth of stuff using a stolen identity.

Rocklin Police say that a 74-year-old victim reported that numerous unauthorized online purchases had been made from his bank account. A total of $760 worth of items was bought, police say.

Investigators were able to identify a possible suspect in the case living along the 5600 block of Mendocino Boulevard in Sacramento. Officers then served a search warrant at the house on Dec. 10 and were able to recover some stolen property.

Police say the suspect – 23-year-old Laura Kirkwood – is an acquaintance of the victim. Kirkwood has been arrested and is facing identity theft and elder abuse charges.

A black eye is quite apparent on Kirkwood's booking photo. However, police note that Kirkwood had the black eye prior to being arrested. Detectives asked about the black eye but say she has refused to tell them how she got the injury.
