Crest Theatre Open Following Shutdown For Health Code Violations, Rodent Droppings

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento landmark is at the center of health code concerns after the Crest Theatre was closed down.

The theater is once again able to serve food, but not before being shut down after inspectors found rodent droppings.

It glows on K Street, but the less than glowing inspection from the county left the Crest Theatre management scrambling.

According to Sacramento County health inspection reports obtained by CBS13, a health inspector found small rodent droppings on ledges near the soda machine and popcorn maker.

By late Wednesday afternoon, the owner and a health inspector came out to remove the notice and replace it with a passing grade.

"There was an inspection, it required some corrective action on our part, and was completed and now we're back and have an open snack bar. Merry Christmas." said owner Yulia Borroum.

Popular chef Michael Thiemann, who has a project in the works for a restaurant in the Crest said he had heard it was an isolated problem that has been fixed.

"It was disappointing, but you know it's always a struggle when you're doing new construction in the downtown area," he said.

When his project opens, he says there won't be any issues.

"Hell, no. It never should be a problem, but it's a learning experience for the management," he said.

The inspection also notes the theater will have to work with an exterminator and seal some holes in the basement where rodents might be getting in.
