Screenings Of 'The Interview' Sell Out In Folsom

FOLSOM (CBS13) - The most-anticipated movie of the season came out today and the crowds came out on Christmas to see "The Interview."

"…to show support for the USA -- freedom, liberty, and justice," said John Harmon, who went to see the movie.

This week, Sony did an about-face and released the movie about assassinating North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un.

We went to the Palladio 16 Cinemas in Folsom for the early reviews.

By now, many moviegoers have heard how "The Interview" ends, but the real surprise was that it was even playing here. Fifteen showings and most were sold out or close to selling out. But today is one of the busiest days of the year for movie theaters.

It was promoted, then under the cyber attack, it was canceled and then back on again. The movie is the resurrected hero of a few movie theaters in the country. Today's first two shows at 11:40 a.m. and 2 p.m. sold out yesterday.

"Full. Three-thirty is almost full. We've got people calling constantly," said Nate Alchesky, movie theater manager.

It eventually sold out too. But are people coming for the movie or for the controversy around the movie?

"Because of the hype. We're actually from Illinois," said Rishawna Carson, who went to the movie.

But others say they just really like Seth Rogen and James Franco.

Despite the movie's appeal, there were only a few nervous to enter the theater fearing an attack on moviegoers. Dell Lor says he checked under the seats for explosives.

"I did, I did. I think I'm the only Asian here," he said.

"Some guy opened the exit door and the light came on and everyone was like **gasp," said David Edlow, who saw "The Interview."

The Palladio 16 Cinemas added more security, but said otherwise staff treated it like a normal day. After the credits, it got positive reviews.

"We loved it. Can't wait 'til it comes out on DVD," said Lor.

"I'm really happy they brought it back because it's a hilarious movie," said Kedon Spier, who saw the movie.

Someone suggested making a movie about getting the movie to theaters should be Sony's next project.
