Investigators: Infant Died From Meth Poisoning; Mother Arrested

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) – A Fairfield woman has been arrested after a months-long investigation into her infant's death.

Fairfield Police say the two-month-old infant was taken to the Northbay Medical Center back on June 18 after it looked to be choking and having trouble breathing. It soon passed away, despite medical treatment.

An investigation into the infant's death was then launched. Later, the Solano County Coroner's Office found the infant had died from acute methamphetamine poisoning.

Investigators identified 21-year-old Fairfield resident Shelby Frederick as the infant's mother. Tuesday night, police officers arrested Frederick in Vallejo and booked her into Solano County Jail. She is facing a charge of assault of a child causing death.

Police note that Frederick is currently five months pregnant.
