Clark's Corner's Sudden Closure Leaves East Sacramento Residents Without New Year's Eve Plans

EAST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — An East Sacramento restaurant and bar suddenly closed this week, leaving customers with New Year's Eve reservations out in the cold.

Clark's Corner opened its doors in 2011, but is now locked up, with no notice to customers.

"I was here just a few days ago, drinking beer, watching football," said Steve Canales.

Residents say it's a shame the place they call a great neighborhood hangout had to close its doors.

"The bartender seemed to know the patrons, the food was good, a lot of TVs, it was a nice place," Canales said.

But the new was even more shocking to DeShawn Jordan, who made dinner reservations in advance for a group of friends on New Year's Eve.

"We showed up yesterday, lo and behold there was nobody here," he said.

After double-checking the reservations the night before, he and his friends showed up on Wednesday night to find the popular restaurant and bar closed, seemingly for good.

"We were stunned and we had to actually scramble, because we had six other people that were arriving soon, to have New Year's Eve dinner with us," he said.

When CBS13 stopped by, a man who says he cleans the place regularly was there. He told us he found out it was closed by showing up for work.

Its website is down and calls to its phone number just keep ringing. Nobody answered the door at the owner's home.

"One day they're open, next day the doors are closed, for no reason - interesting to find out what happened," said Ryan McDonald.

"If you're going to be a business owner, be an ethical business owner, and inform your customers of a potential shutdown," Jordan said.

The general manager of the restaurant also did not return CBS13's calls.
