3 Firefighters Rescued From Burning Sacramento Home

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Three firefighters are being treated for injuries they suffered while battling a house fire in Sacramento this morning.

The fire began just before 6 a.m. at the home on 22nd Avenue, just off Stockton Boulevard.

Firefighters went into the basement and a few minutes later a mayday call went out. Crews were able to rescue the two firefighters who were taken to UC Davis Medical Center with burns, according to Sacramento Fire Department spokesperson Roberto Padilla. A third firefighter was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

All three of the firefighters are in good condition, according to Phyllis Brown, a spokesperson for UC Davis Medical Center.

The Sacramento Fire Department identified the three injured firefighters as Adam McKahan, Captain Pimentel and Alex Galang. Pimentel had been serving with the department since 1995. McKahan started with the department in 2005, and Galang, a probationary firefighter, started in 2014.

A part owner of the home tells CBS13 the fire started in the basement. He also says firefighters who were rescued from the basement fell through the floor.

"Right now they say the fire started from the basement. We don't actually know how; we have a furnace down there, which could have done that. But right now, it's up in the air still," said Corey Beams, part-owner of the home that caught fire. "When they first rushed into the house, the firefighters' floor collapsed. That's how the firefighters fell. When the firefighter tried to rescue the other ones, he fell through the floor also," he added.

Three dogs were at the home when the fire broke out, but were rescued by a neighbor.

The home has been deemed a complete loss.
