Mayor Kevin Johnson, Police Union Leader Repairing Rift In Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS13) — Any rift between Mayor Kevin Johnson and the president of Sacramento's police union is getting a very public repair in the nation's capital.

The two sides had a feud following the decision by a grand jury to not indict a Ferguson police officer in the shooting death of Michael Brown.

The mayor prompted applause at President Barack Obama's task force on 21st Century Policing, and even took Sacramento Police Union President Dustin Smith to an NBA game.

The public affection follows a stretch in which Johnson revealed Sacramento Police racially profiled him as a young man. It also comes two months after union leader Smith condemned the mayor's comments that the Ferguson grand jury decision not to indict an "injustice"

The mayor requested a meeting with police then to explain his comments, avoiding a deepening stalemate with cops.

Johnson wasn't at Tuesday's city council meeting in Sacramento.
