Man Posing As Massage Therapist Suspected Of Sex Assaults In Davis And Colorado

DAVIS (CBS13) – Investigators say that a sex assault suspect arrested in Colorado is also linked to a similar incident in Davis over the summer.

Robert Richard Beattie Smith was arrested in Aurora on Monday. Investigators say that he had sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl while posing as a massage therapist looking to complete his training.

Smith allegedly assaulted the girl as the massage session progressed.

"(The teen) felt inappropriate things were going on, but due to the mental state that she was in, she didn't say anything. When he moved on to her sister, her sister put a stop to it," Aurora Police spokesperson Diana Cooley told CBS Denver.

Police later arrested Smith. He is currently being held without bond in Arapahoe County Jail.

Similar circumstances surround an incident in Davis from back in July. Davis Police say that a man, again posing as a massage therapist looking to put more hours of practice towards graduation, contacted a woman in Davis. During the course of the massage, police say the man began to sexually assault the woman.

The Davis woman confronted the man and he reportedly tried to get out as fast as he could. But, the woman was able to get a partial license plate and investigators quickly identified Smith as the suspect.

Davis Police, as well as Aurora Police, believes there could be more alleged victims of Smith. Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Smith is asked to call the Davis Police Department at (530) 747-5400.
