Investigators: Fire At Abandoned Home Intentionally Set

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) – Crews say a fire at an abandoned home in south Sacramento early Wednesday morning was intentionally set.

Sacramento Metro Fire crews arrived on Hamil Court near Gerber and French roads just after 1 a.m. to find the home nearly half-engulfed in flames fueled by a gas leak.

PG&Ee arrived on scene to shut down that gas line so firefighters could extinguish the remaining flames.

"Initially the fire was progressing pretty well to the backside," said Battalion Chief Greg Casentini. "We were able to get a few units to the back there with hose lines prevent it from spreading to the remainder of the back house."

No injuries were reported.

According to neighbors, the house was abandoned but frequently occupied by squatters.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Metro Fire tipline at (916) 859-3775.
