Davis Family Of 4 Safe After Early Morning House Fire

DAVIS (CBS13) – Crews are investigating what caused a Davis house to catch fire early Friday morning.

Tim Annis, the Fire Marshall for the City of Davis, said that crews fires responded to the 5000 block of El Cermonte Avenue home just after 2:30 a.m.

A family of four was inside the home and got out safely. They reportedly heard noises, went to investigate and saw the fire.

Firefighters had the flames under control by 3:50 a.m.

The fire heavily damaged the garage. Annis says that it looks as if the gas tanks from the cars inside the garage were cracked, causing fuel to leak. Somehow, the fuel ignited during the blaze and caused two fireballs.

Two other small explosions were caused by aerosol cans that were in the garage.

The family says they had two cats in the house and while one of them is unaccounted for, they believe it got out safely.
