Controversial $8M Jeff Koons Sculpture Unanimously Approved By Sacramento City Council
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A controversial $8 million sculpture for a new Sacramento Kings arena was approved by the Sacramento City Council on Tuesday.
The unanimous vote to approve New York artist Jeff Koons' piece drew a full crowd at the meeting. Supporters of local artists were furious so much was being spent on one piece by someone outside the area.
Mayor Kevin Johnson noted the piece will make Sacramento look like a world-class city.
The city will begin accepting ideas from local artists in coming weeks.
