Three Stockton Drive-By Shooting Victims Identified; Four More Expected To Survive

STOCKTON (CBS13/AP) – Police say they believe the drive-by shooting that left three people dead and another four hurt Tuesday night is possibly gang related.

The shooting happened just before 8:30 p.m. outside a market along the 700 block of N. Madison Street.

Stockton police Officer Joe Silva also says the shooting in the inland port city was in a crime-ridden area known for drug deals and is likely gang-related. Violence has rocked Stockton, which was hit hard by the economic downturn and declared bankruptcy in 2012.

Officers who responded to the scene found seven victims. One of the victims – 27-year-old Arniska Lofton – was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others – 23-year-old Kabin Kennebrew and 20-year-old Aliyah Taylor– later died at the hospital.

Four men in their 20s and 30s were found inside the small market and taken to hospitals. The victims - ages 24, 25, 32 and 38 - are expected to survive, Silva said.

Police are interviewing witnesses, some of whom said they heard up to 40 gunshots. Dozens of people gathered in the area after the shooting, and additional officers were called in to help control the crowd.

Witnesses have told investigators that the shots look to have come from a dark SUV heading south on Madison Street.

Homicide and Gang unit detectives are investigating the incident.

Anyone with further information to divulge to police about the shooting is asked to call the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377.
