One of 3 Stockton Drive-By Shooting Victims May Have Been Pregnant

STOCKTON (CBS13) — One of the deadliest shootings in recent memory may have taken an even more tragic turn as one of the victims who died may have been pregnant.

Stockton Police say Tuesday night's shooting happened in a high-crime area known for gang activity. But friends and family are adamant their loved ones were innocent bystanders when shooters rolled up in an SUV and opened fire.

Holding hands in solemn prayer outside of Madison Market, mourners wondered if the violence in Stockton will ever end.

"I don't know, I wish it would stop soon. I can't take it no more," said Star Miller, a wounded victim's sister.

Speaking publicly for the first time, Madison Market employee Pete Fechner remembers hearing so many gunshots it sounded like combat. He used a belt as a makeshift tourniquet to help stop the bleeding of a man who crawled into the market.

"I mean you gotta guy laying next to you shot in the ankle and he's bleeding out. You gotta do what you gotta do," he said.

Four were wounded, and three did not survive the drive-by shooting. Tuesday night's shooting claimed the lives of Kabin Kennebrew, 23; Arniska "Nikki" Lofton, 27; and Aliyah Taylor, 20.

And it may be even more tragic than that. Jill Walker, a friend of Nikki's, says she was one month pregnant.

"She was pregnant, so that's four lives right? That's four lives, that wasn't no three, that's four. They took that unborn child from her too," she said.

Stockton Police tell CBS13 they're investigating the possibility it's gang-related, but family and friends insist the victims were not gang members. They say they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"They'd have shot me, they'd have shot you, they'd have shot him. If you'd have just been going in the store to get a soda they'd have shot you too," Walker said.
