Sacramento Mother Accused Of Trying To Kill Daughter, 7

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A Sacramento community is in shock after a mother was arrested, accused of attempting to kill her 7-year-old daughter in their home.

The incident happened in the 600 block of El Camino Avenue at 3:17 p.m.

Neighbors tell CBS13 she used gas and a lighter to do it. They say they saw paramedics wheel out the little girl with serious burns to her face and body.

Police won't identify mom for fear of identifying the victim.

Neighbors say it came out of nowhere.

"And she put gas on her little daughter, can you believe that?" one neighbor said.

They say they never saw it coming.

"She looked like a normal mom playing with her kid," another neighbor said.

Police say the mom attempted to kill her seven-year-old child, but won't reveal how or why.

Neighbor Kenneth Mecum says he was there as paramedics wheeled the girl out on a gurney in a burn bag.

"The cop told me that she burned her with gas," Mecum said.

He says the mom lives next door with her boyfriend and that he's seen police there before, but he's never seen it this bad.

"It was real traumatizing," Mecum said. "She had flesh off of her face and arms and stuff."

He says she looked terrified, yet was still alert.

Richard Moore and his wife Caryssa Castro were just back from Easter services.

"It's upsetting because … I just couldn't imagine something like that to another child, especially being that old," Castro said.

And with so many unanswered questions, they're left wondering why.

It's unclear how the girl is doing as of Sunday night. Police say they'll release more revealing details about the case tomorrow.
