Manure-Covered Car Helps Deputies Spot Suspected Vandals

MANTECA (CBS13) – A couple of suspected vandals chased away from a farm were not able to make a clean getaway, deputies say.

The incident happened at a Manteca-area farm near East Mortensen Road and South Airport Way.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to the scene Thursday morning after farmers spotted a car doing donuts in a field. Farmers reportedly chased after the car, leading the driver to try and get away by powering through a four-foot deep pond of liquid cow manure.

Deputies say the manure-covered car helped them easily find the car in a nearby gated community.

Two men, Dylan Skundberg and Devon Lemar, have been arrested. Deputies say the men have admitted to taking turns at doing donuts in the field.

A farmer says the vandalism caused between $4,000 to $5,000 in damage to an alfalfa hay field. The field won't be able to produce hay for about two to three years.
